United Airlines has invested $5 million in carbon capture company Svante, the airline announced on Wednesday. The deal was made through United’s Sustainable Flight Fund, which the airline operates started in February.
Svante uses structured absorbent beds, known as filters, which can capture carbon emissions from industrial sites, as well as CO2 that’s already in the air, according to United. Once captured, it is concentrated and can be used to make sustainable aviation fuel and other products.
The investment was made as part of Svante’s Series E funding round and, according to United, will support the company’s filter manufacturing facility in Vancouver, BC.
