A Texas teenager has been charged with murder after fatally shooting his parents, brother and sister.
On Tuesday, police in the small east Texas town of Nash responded to reports of a man barricading himself inside his home, injuring his family and threatening to shoot himself.
When they arrived, they found 18-year-old Cesar Olalde locked in his home.
The first report came from a man who worked with Cesar’s mother, Aida Garcia, who came to her house to check on her when she wasn’t showing up for work.
The colleague became concerned when other members of the Olalde family called and asked if he knew where she was.
After the co-worker and another family member forced entry into the home, Cesar opened the door and held him at gunpoint, the weapon police are believed to have used to murder his family.
According to court documents, Olalde told the colleague that he killed his family “because they were cannibals and they wanted to eat him”.
What’s more, Olalde himself called 911 during the horrific incident and told operators “several times” that he “pulled the trigger and killed his family.”
Olalde was taken into police custody after a “brief altercation” with officers, according to a probable cause affidavit filed against him.
The victims were the shooter’s parents, Reuben Olalde and Aida Garcia, his older sister Lisbet Olalde and his five-year-old brother Oliver Olalde.
“It appeared that the victims were shot at various points in the apartment and taken to the bathroom,” the affidavit reads. Investigators found blood spatter and spent bullet casings around the house.
Olalde was charged with four counts of murder. He is being held in a prison in Texarkana, Texas and has bail set at $10 million.
