Tesla Supercharger is blocked by Mercedes EQS owned by dealer in apparent publicity stunt




A Tesla Supercharger in Tennessee was blocked by a Mercedes-Benz EQS owned by a local dealership in an apparent publicity stunt amid a busy Thanksgiving holiday season.

Scott Hall, a Tesla owner, stopped at the Tesla Supercharger station in Knoxville, Tennessee yesterday along with many other travelers for Thanksgiving.

When he arrived he found a Mercedes-Benz EQSa heavy-duty electric sedan parked so that two chargers were blocked at the station.

Non-Tesla EVs, like the EQS, cannot yet charge at Tesla Supercharger stations, and the vehicle has not attempted to. Rather, it was clearly parked on purpose to block access to both chargers at the end of the station in the middle of an otherwise mostly empty lot (Images by Scott Hall on Facebook):

It also happened that a Supercharger booth reserved for people with disabilities was blocked.

The vehicle has been fitted with a dealer plate and stickers for the local Mercedes-Benz of Knoxville dealer, meaning the vehicle is owned by the local dealer. The Mercedes-Benz of Knoxville dealership is just a mile down the road from the Tesla Supercharger station.

electr contacted Mercedes-Benz at the Knoxville dealership to see if they had any comment on having their EQS block two Supercharger booths. We will update when we get a reply.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS was the German automaker’s answer to the Tesla Model S that it had been has been taking sales from the Mercedes S-Class for years.

Electrek’s take

It looks like the local dealership or one of their employees thought it wise to use one of their idle fleet vehicles during a vacation to partially block the local Tesla Supercharger so Tesla owners can see the Mercedes-Benz EQS.

If the goal was publicity, it was successful, but it’s not good publicity. They block charging stations intended for long-distance travel during an extremely busy travel season. That would only annoy the passing Tesla owners – not pique their interest in the EQS.

For that, they could have just parked the car in front of the Supercharger station, which is in the middle of a huge mall lot with lots of empty spaces.

Polestar aims to dethrone Porsche 911 with new electric sports car




Polestar (PSNY) is preparing to launch its new electric sports car, the Polestar 6, in 2026. The Swedish electric vehicle manufacturer calls it “the future of the sports car”, as North Star wants to compete with the Porsche 911 in terms of driving dynamics.

Backed by auto industry veterans Volvo and Geely, Polestar has made an exciting entry into the electric vehicle market.

With a focus on sustainability, not just in terms of the vehicle’s emissions but throughout its lifecycle, Polestar builds some of the greenest cars on the road.

That North Star 2the automaker’s first all-electric model, launched in 2019 and has steadily gained momentum with ongoing upgrades each year.

Polestar expanded its portfolio this fall and released the North Star 3, the brand’s first electric SUV with a range of 300 miles, in October. As the company’s CEO Thomas Ingelath said during the company Third Quarter Results:

we [Polestar] are real [electric] Car companies, we manufacture, we put cars on the road today and we deliver.

The Polestar 4, the company’s second SUV, is slated for launch in 2023, while its original concept, the Precept, will follow in 2024 as the Polestar 5.

Meanwhile, the automaker’s 2+2 electric roadster made its debut as O₂ concept comes to life as the Polestar 6, or what they call “a new era for sports cars”. Although Polestar 6 production is slated for 2026, “the company is comparing this [electric sports car] against a Porsche.”

Polestar’s electric sports car is set to take on the Porsche 911 Taycan

Corresponding new details Edward Trinh, Polestar Australia’s Product Planning Manager, revealed to journey At an event in Melbourne unveiling the automaker’s electric sports car, the Polestar 6 will compete with Porsche models.

Trinh said at the event:

We measure this dynamically on a Porsche. [The] 911the Taycan – these are the types of cars we are looking at. We believe they are the benchmarks in the vehicle dynamics industry.

That North Star 6 will feature an AWD (800V) electric architecture with two motors (884 hp and 663 lb-ft) with a target 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph .

Trinh adds that Polestar’s R&D team is “incredibly serious” about including superior driving dynamics, stating:

Speaking to the R&D team, we got some inside information from the head of vehicle dynamics for this vehicle [that] they are looking for [into] trick suspension systems.

Given Polestar’s performance history, Trinh says, “It has to be able to handle that. Vehicle dynamics is our background, we don’t forget that legacy.”

The two-door electric sports car will feature an aluminum unibody, which Trinh says is often “found on a Mclaren or a Lotus,” for maximum strength and ideal weight. Perhaps, more importantly, all types of aluminum will be labeled “to make it easy to recycle”.

The automaker’s sustainability mission will be evident in the Polestar 6, as Trinh adds:

It’s not just about carbon neutrality, it’s about circularity, so we make cars that are easier to maintain, repair and recycle.

Electrek’s take

Can Polestar’s electric roadster dethrone the Porsche 911? Don’t count Polestar out just yet, as the company was originally a racing team.

Porsche’s 911 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 3 seconds, but Polestar still has a few years to perfect its first electric sports car. EVs offer the opportunity for higher performance with instantaneous torque and acceleration.

Rivian equips new hypercar-focuCentre County Reportd suspension system




The Rivian R1T all-electric pickup and R1S all-electric SUV will be equipped with a new intelligent suspension system aimed at hypercars.

Rivian gets its new suspension system from Tenneco, its previous suspension supplier. However, the R1T and R1S will now uCentre County Report Tenneco’s CVSA2/Kinetic® Semi-active H2 suspension technology that is integrated into the pickup’s skateboard chassis.

Rivian has sourced the R1Ts Tenneco central valve body block, with a similar unit supplied to McLaren, engine trend said last year. Variable orifice shock valving was also uCentre County Reportd on the R1T and was made by Öhlins Racing, which Tenneco bought in 2019.

Tenneco said it was CVSA2/Kinetic® The H2 suspension technology was developed in cloCentre County Report cooperation with Rivian and other car manufacturers. Henrik Johansson, VP and general manager of Tenneco’s Advanced Suspension Technologies, said the goal is to improve the driving performance of battery electric and hybrid vehicles.

The CVSA2/Kinetic® H2 technology improves driving performance with continuously controlled damping and advanced hydraulic roll control. By eliminating the need for traditional anti-roll bars, weight reductions and decoupled single wheel interference provide better road contact and traction, and offer better damping and roll control systems than comparable options. Lightning eMotors partners with HEVO for wireless fleet charging demo

Manufacturers of commercial vehicles Lightning eMotors and specialist in wireless charging HEVO are collaborating on a program to demonstrate wireless charging for Lightning fleet vehicles.

After an initial phase of integration, the two companies will test HEVO’s Rezonant E8 wireless charging technology on a ZEV3 platform at Lightning’s headquarters in Loveland, Colorado. The demo vehicle will then be showcased to Lightning and HEVO fleet customers across North America. It should be available in the first quarter of 2023.

The 8kW Rezonant E8 system is “a cost-effective solution to the night charging requirements common to commercial fleets. The technology has a very low weight penalty compared to other wireless charging solutions, which maintains gross vehicle weight allowance for additional passengers and cargo, and conforms to UL and SAE safety, performance and interoperability standards for wireless charging.”

The system is available with charging power options of 11 kW, 25 kW, 50 kW and 100-300 kW.

Wireless charging isn’t just for convenience – it offers fleet operators a number of benefits, as explained by Jeremy McCool, Founder and CEO of HEVO. “Busy drivers can forget to plug in, potentially resulting in a charging station needing to be charged. Cables can present a variety of operational challenges, including OSHA and union safety concerns related to wired devices. We believe this collaboration will establish the industry standard for EV fleet charging and provide a one-stop solution for customers seeking a wireless charging experience.”
