Tesla, the world’s largest electric car maker, has a potential annual output to produce about 2 million electric vehicles annually.

Consider that in the fourth quarter, the company manufactured and sold more than 400,000 unitswe can assume that the systems are already running at over 1.6 million units per year a target of 1.8 million sales in 2023.

In this post we’ll go through it Tesla‘s EV Manufacturing Facilities to see what’s new at each of the sites and what advances are associated with them Tesla Semi All-electric Class 8 and Class 8 trucks Tesla Cybertruck pick up.

Tesla’s Fremont factory has the potential to produce up to 550,000 model 3/Model Y per year plus up to 100,000 updates Model S/Model X.

According to Tesla, each of its EV factories produced a record number of vehicles in 2022, so Fremont is also running at its peak.

Tesla’s first Gigafactory is a lithium-ion battery cell factory that produces 2170-type cylindrical battery cells and other products (drive units, power electronics, energy storage systems and parts) in partnership with Panasonic.

Tesla officially announced this earlier this month an investment of $3.6 billion at the site to also produce the completely new type 4680 (100 GWh per year) cylindrical battery cells with potential for more) and Tesla Semi Electric Trucks (potentially about 50,000 Tesla Semi per year).

The status of the Tesla Semi is currently “pilot production,” also referred to as limited production by Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk. The previous status was “Early Production” in Q3 2022 Financial Report and “In Development” in Q2 2022 Financial Report.

The Tesla Giga plant in Shanghai has the potential to produce over 750,000 Model 3/Model Y per year. The factory remains the company’s export center.

“Since our Shanghai plant has been successfully operating at nearly full capacity for several months, we do not expect any significant sequential volume increases in the short term. Gigafactory Shanghai remains our main export hub, supplying vehicles to most markets outside of North America.”

The company announced this in December For the first time, 3,000 Tesla Model Y were produced in a single week. Capacity is estimated at over 250,000 annually.

At some point in the future, the company plans to start production of a new version powered by 4680-type cylindrical battery cells. Meanwhile, customers can choose new premium paint colors:

“We’ve also introduced two new multi-layer paint colors from our advanced paint shop at our Berlin facility – Quicksilver and Midnight Cherry Red.”

Tesla Giga Texas in Austin began production of the Tesla Model Y in April 2022. This version of the Model Y is equipped with 4680-type cylindrical cells and a structural battery pack.

However, due to the limited supply of 4680 cells, the factory later began producing the “Legacy” version using 2170 and non-structural batteries.

According to the company, the plant has recently produced 3,000 Model Y (all versions) in a single week. In the meantime, Shipments of 4680 cylindrical battery cells increased to 1 million units per weekthat’s enough for more than 1,000 electric cars (a third of the plant’s production).

It is important to note that the 4680 cylindrical battery cells are now also being produced locally in Giga, Texas (on Tesla’s Kato Road pilot plant in Fremont, California). Unfortunately we do not know the production rate.

In mid-2023, the Giga Texas plant will start production of the all-electric Tesla Cybertruck pickup (current status “tooling”), although Tesla says we’ll have to wait until 2024 for mass production.

SONDORS teases new electric dirt bike after Metacycle price drop

Electric bike and e-motorcycle company SONDORS is teasing something new, and it looks a lot like an electric dirt bike.

SONDORS just sent out a teaser email to their followers stating that “the next SONDORS product release is coming soon”.

There aren’t many details about the new model provided, other than that the upcoming product announcement will be referred to as “MetaBIG”.

The pun evokes the SONDORS Metacyclea small-scale electric motorcycle that the company first announced in early 2021 and eventually launched to consumers in late 2022.

The Metacycle uses a cast aluminum frame, giving it a distinctive frame sink. The company originally stated that three accessories would be available for the cavity, including a storage box, level 2 charger, or backup battery.

Sondor's Metacycle Review

It’s not clear if the upcoming product will be built on the Metacycle framework, but CEO and Founder Storm Sondors will told electr during a Wheel-E podcast interview that the company was working on several models that would be based on the Metacycle platform.

An electric dirt bike would be a likely option, although it might just as likely be SONDORS developing some sort of electric trail bike in line with that Sur Ron light bee or other lightweight off-road electric motorcycles.

The teaser image doesn’t give much away, but we do see off-road tires as well as a distinctive disc brake guard typically only found on dirt bikes. The bike also features a beak-style front fender commonly found on dirt and adventure bikes, as well as a revised headlight.

Sondor's Metacycle Teaser
Teaser image provided by SONDORS

The Metacycle in its current form uses a rear hub motor, which is not ideal for off-road riding. But then again, it’s not exactly the best option for on-road riding either, and that hasn’t stopped SONDORS from selling thousands of lightweight electric commuter motorcycles.

The company recently announced a $2,500 “loan.”bringing the price of the $6,500 electric motorcycle down to just $4,000 before shipping.

The loan apparently helped SONDORS Grab 1,000 reservations in a week for the bike, on top of that According to reports, 2,000 units have already been delivered.

Despite the increase in shipments, SONDORS has been metacycles roll out Complaints ranged from the bike not meeting its original performance specs to concerns about build quality to the inability to reach customer service to get answers in a timely manner. Many early reservation holders have had trouble canceling their reservations and receiving refunds, with some waiting several months to hear back from the company about pending refunds.

The company has a long history of lofty promises with optimistic delivery times. But with the exception of his three-wheel electric car projectSONDORS has generally lived up to most of what it promises, albeit usually several months behind schedule.

The practice has angered riders unaccustomed to the company’s rather “unique” method of operation, and often leaves frustrated riders wondering when they’ll get their new e-bike or e-motorcycle. So if history is any indication, it might be a good idea to extend the delivery timeline that SONDORS is announcing for the unveiling of this new vehicle by a few months.
