Reese Witherspoon has announced her divorce from husband Jim Toth after 11 years of marriage.
The naturally blonde actress confirmed the news of their split days before their 12th wedding anniversary in a statement on Instagram.
In the Post, she insisted her priorities were her son, Tennessee Williams, and her “entire family.”
“We have some personal news to share … We made the difficult decision to divorce with great care and thought,” she began.
“We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and move forward with deep love, kindness and mutual respect for all that we have created together.
“Our number one priority is our son and our entire family as we navigate this next chapter.
“These matters are never easy and very personal. We really appreciate everyone’s respect for our family’s privacy at this time.
“They really are best friends and it’s such an amicable decision,” an insider later said People Magazine their separation.
“They are so committed to being parents together.
“They invest in their whole family and make this as smooth as possible for everyone.”
Reese was first linked to Jim in February 2010 after her split from Jake Gyllenhaal.
In a candid interview with Elle Magazine in 2012, she reflected on their first meeting at a convention, explaining that it “happened out of the blue.”
“This really drunk guy hit on me, made such a fool of himself and yelled at me,” she said. ‘He was [slurring, scowling, pointing finger in her face] “You don’t know me.” And I thought, “Yeah, I know. I do not know you!”
“Jim came over and said, ‘I’m sorry, my friend. He just broke up with someone.” Jim was a really good friend who got him out of that situation. That’s just the way he is, a really good person.’
They soon became inseparable and announced their engagement at the end of the year.
After a whirlwind engagement, they tied the knot on March 26, 2011 at the bride’s California mansion.
The couple share 10-year-old son Tennessee, while Reese is also a mother to Ava and Deacon from her marriage to Ryan Phillippe.
News of their split may come as a shock as the former couple recently shared a glimpse of their stunning family Christmas together.
In a series of snaps on social media, they could be seen posing in front of their sensationally decorated home, surrounded by their children.
Alongside a post, the mother of three wrote, “Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from our family to yours!”
Reese also commemorated her wedding on Instagram to celebrate her final wedding anniversary with a sweet selfie.
She added at the time: “Happy Anniversary JT!! 11 years of adventure, love & laughter. I feel so lucky to share this wonderful life with you.’
