Kidambi Srikanth vs. Sai Praneeth
Kidambi Srikanth and Sai Praneeth will face off in the second round of the Madrid Masters Badminton in an all Indian competition. Both players won their first-round contest in three games. While Srikanth defeated Sitthikom Thammasin, Sai Praneeth defeated Jan Louda.
Srikanth is aiming to reach the quarterfinals for the first time this year on the BWF Tour. Meanwhile, Sai Praneeth was last in the quarterfinals of the Thailand Masters earlier this year. Sai Praneeth leads the head-to-head record against Srikanth 5-4. They last met at the Denmark Open in 2021 and Sai Praneeth won the competition in straight matches.
Kiran George versus Magnus Johannesen
Kiran George won his first match on the BWF Tour this year. He defeated fellow countryman Mithun Manjunath in straight sets in the first round. George now meets Magnus Johannesen from Denmark in the second round.
Johannesen is ranked 55th in the world and entered the main draw after playing the qualifiers. Johannesen defeated Spain’s Luis Penalver in three games in the first round. Both players will face each other for the first time.
Priyanshu Rajawat vs. Toma Junior Popov
Priyanshu Rajawat made it into the main draw after winning his matches in qualifying. He met the Dane Victor Svendensen in the first round and won 18:21, 21:16, 21:11 in the second round. He now meets eighth-seeded Toma Junior Popov in the second round. Toma Popov defeated Lin Chun-yi from Chinese Taipei in the first round. Both players will face each other for the first time on the tour.
Sameer Verma vs. Kanta Tsuneyama
Sameer Verma clinched a three-set win over Nhat Nguyen in the first round. He now faces a difficult challenge as he will face off against second-placed Kanta Tsuneyama. The Japanese defeated Brian Yang in straight matches in the first round.
Both players meet for the third time on the tour. They each won a game. Their last meeting was at the Denmark Open in 2019. Sameer Verma won the match in straight games.

PV Sindhu versus Putri Kusuma Wardhini
PV Sindhu won her first round contest against Jenjira Stadelman in straight matches. She now faces Putri Kusuma Wardhini of Indonesia in a repeat of the second round competition at the Swiss Open earlier this year. The Indonesian defeated Sindhu in three games at the tournament last week. Sindhu now seeks revenge.
Wardhini, meanwhile, defeated Lianne Tan in straight matches in the first round in Madrid. She made it to the quarterfinals at the Swiss Open last week and is aiming for another deep run at the Madrid Open. The upcoming competition will be the second meeting between the duo.
Ashmitha Chaliha, Malvika Bansod and Aakarshi Kashyap will also be in action for the women in the second round. Ashmitha Chaliha meets Yeo Jia Min from Singapore in the first round. Aakarshi Kashyap will take on Japan’s unseeded Natsuki Nidaira. Malvika Bansod will face a tough challenge from Carolina Marin.
In doubles, MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila meet qualifiers Shuntaro Mezaki and Haruya Nishida in the second round. In women’s doubles, Sikki Reddy and Arathi Sunil meet the Japanese duo Hirokami-Kato.
