As we know they have a show with The third line in Dubai at the moment we dedicate today’s A portfolio to the Los Angeles-based artist, Hayv Kahraman. The gallery notes, “Recently, the artist has focused her research on neuroscience, human immunology, and ‘neurosculpture’ – the ability to remodel the neural pathways in our brains through the gut microbiome – and how they relate specifically to trauma and our ultimate purpose to heal and to mend.” Today we wanted to take a look at the last decade of artistic creation.
Hayv Kahraman was born in Baghdad, Iraq in 1981 and now lives and works in Los Angeles. A vocabulary of narratives, memories and dynamics of non-steadiness found in diasporic cultures are the essence of her visual language and the product of her experience as an Iraqi refugee/emigrant. The body as object and subject plays a central role in her painting practice as she embodies the artist herself and a collective.
