Chelsea 2 – 2 Everton

Ellis Simms scored his first goal for Everton in the 89th minute at Stamford Bridge to earn a crucial point in the Toffees’ relegation battle and halt Chelsea’s recent rebound.

Chelsea had bounced back from terrible form earlier in the year by winning their last three games in all competitions and they should have gone four in a row after twice taking the lead against Everton.

Joao Felix rolled the Blues’ first goal past Jordan Pickford seven minutes after the break, only for the hosts to smugly sneak into their game, which resulted in Abdoulaye Doucoure tipping a header just over the line to put the visitors in equalize the 69th minute.

Chelsea managed to hit back through Kai Havertz seven minutes later when he converted a penalty after a foul on Reece James, but the Blues threw it away again, with Simms rushing easily past Kalidou Koulibaly before seeing his shot deflect to Kepa Arrizabalaga snaking by as the toffees continued their spirited battle against the drip.

How Everton fought back to deny Chelsea

After Everton appeared on course for relegation under former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard in late January, Everton’s revival continued under Dyche thanks to another impressive performance in west London.

The Toffees have just two points from their last eight Premier League games under Lampard but have picked up 11 from Dyche’s first eight games in charge, clear evidence of the positive impact the former Burnley manager has made.

Team News

  • Chelsea made three changes from the side that won at Leicester last time out, with Reece James, Benoit Badiashile and Christian Pulisic replacing Marc Cucurella, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mykhailo Mudryk
  • N’Golo Kante was named as the Blues’ replacement, returning to the squad after seven months with a hamstring injury
  • Everton have named an unchanged side since beating Brentford last weekend, with Demarai Gray leading the line and Ben Godfrey at left-back

Everton frustrated Chelsea during their encounter on Saturday night, with a defender seemingly getting in the way of the ball every time they got close to Pickford’s goal with few clear chances in the first half.

The visitors’ resistance was finally broken by Felix after collecting Michael Keane’s feeble clearance to put the ball in the far corner, but Everton’s fighting qualities showed as they fought back through Doucoure, who spotted James Tarkowski’s close-range header Kepa passed .

A rare error by Tarkowski and Ben Godfrey, who together brought James down, allowed Havertz to score his third goal in as many games from the spot, but Everton were undeniable when Simms charged into Chelsea’s area and his Three-game ended winning run.

The result puts Dyche’s team in 15th place and two points clear of the drop zone, while Graham Potter’s team missed a chance to close the gap on fourth-placed Tottenham and sits in 10th, 11 points off the top four.

In this case, however, he leans into his friend to beat Danial Williams, but not without some sort of challenge. Speaking to ONE Championship, the 23-year-old star predicted:

“I personally like Daniel. He’s a tough fighter. He has a strong heart and heavy weapons. But I think Superlek is superior to him in terms of experience and physical advantages. His right kick is deadly. I think Superlek will win this fight but maybe not KO because Danial is the tough one.

Williams enter the kickboxing scene with nothing to lose and everything to gain. He was originally set to face Portuguese forward Rui Bolteho in a muay thai strawweight bout before being asked to step in as Rodtang’s replacement just days ago. Though he goes into the foray with a list of disadvantages, he’s willing to put in the work for a shot at winning a world title.

Daniel Williams tells Superlek he’s coming for the win

‘mini T’ Daniel Williams enjoying the short time he has to sink Superleks Skin before they meet in circle this Friday.

Williams is coming off a 5-month hiatus after suffering a devastating TKO loss to Jeremy Miado at ONE last year on Prime Video 3. Before his loss, “Mini-T” had a string of wins in MMA to establish himself among the most dangerous forwards in his division.

He is known for his aggressive, high-volume fighting style that could cause a lot of trouble for Superlek who likes to fight at his own pace. To prove he’s not afraid of Superlek, Williams sent the Pattaya-bred fighter the following message on Instagram:

“The pressure is on you, not on me at all. I will give you an absolute war. I know you guys wanted to see the Rodtang Superlek, so I will make this trail more exciting. I come for the win, this belt is mine.”
