Lithium-ion battery manufacturer Amprius Technologies has signed a letter of intent to build a 775,000 square foot facility in Brighton, Colorado. The factory is scheduled to start operations in 2025 and will be built in phases. The first phase will have an annual capacity of 500 MWh. The capacity could potentially be expanded up to 5 GWh within the initial utilization.

The company selected Colorado for its facility after an extensive evaluation of key criteria in three states. The site has an existing 1.3 million square foot factory site equipped with the electrical performance and structural layout ideal for a GWh-scale lithium-ion battery factory, reducing expected build-out costs. In addition, the site is close to key materials and critical transportation infrastructure.

“The choice of Colorado for our GWh-scale facility marks an important milestone for Amprius,” said Dr. Kang Sun, CEO of Amprius Technologies. “Increasing production to meet significant market demand for our silicon anode lithium-ion technology remains a priority and we are confident that this factory will allow us to scale and effectively serve the electric mobility market.”
