Bayern Munich have released a statement explaining why they fired Julian Nagelsmann – with Thomas Tuchel officially announced as his successor.
It was reported on Thursday that Bayern Munich had made the shock decision to part ways with Nagelsmann Chelsea Manager Tuchel was about to take over in the Allianz Arena.
This decision was incredibly surprising considering the German giants are still struggling to complete a treble this season, with the side in the quarter-finals for both the domestic cup and the cup Champions League.
Nine games from the end, they are one point behind Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga table, but should still help their arch-rivals to win the title.
It has been suggested that the The club’s management was unhappy with Bayern’s lack of domestic dominance this season as well as the lack of development of young stars like Jamal Musiala.
And that has now been more or less confirmed, with Bayern confirming the news on Friday with a statement from CEO Oliver Kahn: “We were convinced we would work with him [Nagelsmann] long-term – and that was the goal of all of us until the very end.
“Julian shares our aspiration to play successful and attractive football. But now we have to realize that the quality of our squad – despite last year’s Bundesliga title – has come less and less to the fore.
“After the World Cup we played less successfully and less attractively. The large fluctuations in performance have called into question our goals for this season, but also our goals for the future.
“That’s why we acted now. Personally and on behalf of FC Bayern, I would like to thank Julian and his coaching team and wish everyone every success for the future.”
The 35-year-old Nagelsmann is still regarded as one of the best managers in the world and has now been Tip on moving to Tottenham who are looking for a replacement for Antonio Conte.
Spurs had taken an interest in Tuchel, who has been out of work since his shock sacking by Chelsea last September.
